The Problem of Steroids in Baseball
Over the last decade, steroid use in baseball has become quite a prevalent problem. Fans are upset because the substance is illegal and the players using steroids are breaking all kinds of records and some people don't think they should be in the record books because they cheated. Steroid use has even lead to congressional hearings to find out who was doping and for how long.
Steroids and human growth hormones do exactly what you think, they allow the player to grow bigger muscles very quickly making them stronger and better baseball players. This is an unfair advantage today's players have over the allstars like Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron.
Barry Bonds is probably the most well known steroid user in baseball. When he broke the home-run record, there was an outcry from people all over the country and the world saying he doesn't deserve it for cheating. And most people agree that letting baseball take steroids is wrong and needs to be cracked down on. These players all know what they're doing is illegal and wrong, but they did it anyway.
Alex Rodriguez recently admitted to taking steroids at a congressional hearing. Alex is the highest paid baseball player in the history of the league, but now people are wondering if he really deserves all that money since he cheated to get to where he's at. But the Yankees don't feel the same way, they invited him back to training camp and to join the team, even though he was taking illegal steroids for many years.
Some people argue that baseball is just a form of entertainment, and the players should be allowed to put anything in their bodies to entertain us. But the hardcore baseball fans want to sport to remain pure and drug-free.
